Positive action.

In recent years, Northumberland has been a disaster area as far as road verge mowing is concerned, with our 3000 miles of road (6000 miles of verge!) being routinely mown in June!
It has taken a bit of persuasion, not least by the staff at the North Pennines AONB, now we have finally got some protection from unnecessary verge mowing here in the lanes near the Cottage. Perhaps now a chance for the wild and special plants that grow there to become established again.
This is one small step, and there are many steps in a journey, but it is a start.

Thanks for listening and being willing to act Northumberland County Council.

Unexpected Visitor

Yesterday we aquired an unexpected guest, beautiful Peahen.  We have no idea where she is from but suspect that she is just wandering wild.  Still here this morning we are trying to encourage her to stay here where she will be a little safer, though it is likely she will just up and off one day soon.

Honey Bee

Wandering around the field and meadow in the glorious sunshine the other day, I spotted this Honey Bee working away, legs loaded with pollen.
